Indian Cultural Competency Training

Along with The Smith Family and Brimbank Communities for Children, IndianCare conducted an online cultural competency training for 25 family services and early years workers. This training aimed to improve mainstream services’ understandings of the attitudes and behaviours , family patterns and parenting practices of Indian communities in Australia in order to minimise barriers to service engagement and improve uptake of suggested strategies.

Under the umbrella of cohealth’s LDAT project, IndianCare conducted a positive parenting session for Chin community members. A strong turnout and positive feedback demonstrated the success of this project.

In partnership with the Ethnic Communities Cultural Council of Victoria, IndianCare, hosted an NDIS awareness session for the Indian community, in Wyndham. This interactive workshop was attended by 30 people, and facilitated by the Brotherhood of St Laurence (BSL). This session focused on explaining the way in which individuals with disabilities could maximise their independence through a new funding scheme offered by BSL.

Mental Health Awareness Workshop

As part of a series organised by MANAS at the Penrose Community Centre, Tarneit, IndianCare aimed to inform, educate and raise awareness through a presentation on mental health. This presentation covered topics including the prevalence of mental illness, indicators – especially of anxiety and depression, risk factors, and ways in which to access help.
